Situated about 30 km northwest of the Constantine Province, the dam reservoir is located in Mila City, in eastern Algeria. The works are part of a master project named Transfer of Beni Haroun, which aimed to channel much needed water from Beni Haroun and Bou Siaba to the six cities of Batna, Kenchela, Mila, Oum El Bouaghi, Constantine and Jijel where the demand for drinking water and agricultural irrigation water has increased rapidly over recent years. The dam reaches a height of 44 m, a length of 630 m, and has a reservoir capacity of 33,600,000 cubic meters. Its combined concrete tunnel, a derivation gallery and water transfer gallery, have a length of 313 m and a sectional area 75 m². The derivation gallery is able to drain water at a maximum flow rate of 60 cubic meters per second. The pipeline capacity is 4 cubic meters per second for drinking water and 2.5 cubic meters per second for irrigation water.
